Germ City Unit

The focal point of the Germ City Program is a large, walk-through tunnel equipped with black lights. Youth and adults apply a black light sensitive lotion and enter the tunnel, seeing pretend germs on their hands. After initial observation, participants wash their hands normally, re-visit Germ City, and assess their effectiveness. It’s “hands-on” experience. Everyone has an opportunity to learn about the importance of frequent, effective hand washing and see immediate results.

The Germ City unit is manufactured by Hi-Impact Exhibits. The unit consists of an aluminum frame which breaks down and fits into large cargo case. A cover and artwork inside the unit are constructed of black fabric that meets the California State Exhibit standards. The cargo case holds the unit, cover, black lights, posters, and all materials necessary to conduct programs.

Our team has given much consideration to the the construction of the unit. It is handicapp accessible and sturdy. The unit is 7 feet long, 7 feet tall and 3.5 feet wides. It takes 30-45 minutes to construct. Because the frame components are inter-changeable, the unit may also be constructed as a smaller version: 3.5 feet long, 7 feet tall, and 3.5 feet wide for use with smaller groups. The unit is not constructed for outdoor use.
